How to Erase All Remotes from a Genie Opener
On current Genie openers, hold PRGM/SET until the round LED turns blue, release, then press and hold the + and - buttons together until both LEDs turn blue. That erases every remote, keypad, and car button. Older units: hold LEARN CODE until the LED stops blinking.
- Works for:
- Genie Intellicode openers.

- A stepladder
- The remotes and keypad you want to keep
Step by step
Step 1: Current units: press and hold PRGM/SET until the round LED turns blue, then release. The long LED flashes purple.
Step 2: Press and hold the + and - buttons together until both LEDs turn blue, then release. Remotes, keypads, and car buttons are erased. Aladdin Connect and the wired wall button are not affected. A wireless wall console is cleared separately; the steps are in the manual.
Step 3: Older LEARN CODE units: press and hold LEARN CODE until the LED stops blinking.
Step 4: Test the old remotes. None should work.
Step 5: Re-pair each remote, the keypad, and your car buttons.
Still not working? Here is what it usually is.
- Holding PRGM/SET on its own doesn't erase anything on current units. It only starts programming. You need the + and - step.
- The window ran out and both LEDs went red. Start again.
- An old car button still works. Re-train it or clear it from the car.
We diagnose the whole system, opener, door, sensors, and remotes, and tell you plainly whether it's a quick fix or time for a new unit.
