How to Set Up Aladdin Connect on a Genie Opener
Install the Aladdin Connect app and add a device. Genie Connect models have Wi-Fi built in and set up through the app. Most other openers made after 1993 that have safety sensors can use the Aladdin Connect retrofit kit.
- Works for:
- Genie openers with built-in Aladdin Connect, and most other sectional-door openers through the retrofit kit.

Before you start
- A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and its password (WPA or WPA2)
- The Aladdin Connect app
- A decent Wi-Fi signal in the garage, about two bars on your phone
Step by step
Step 1: Open the Aladdin Connect app, create an account, and choose to add a device.
Step 2: Choose your setup type: an opener with Aladdin Connect built in, or the retrofit kit.
Step 3: For the retrofit kit, mount the module near the opener and follow the kit's instructions. Some kits include a battery-powered door position sensor that goes near the top of the door.
Step 4: Follow the app to connect to your home Wi-Fi.
Step 5: Test open and close from the app with the door in sight.
Still not working? Here is what it usually is.
- The phone was on a 5 GHz network during setup. Use the 2.4 GHz network.
- The garage Wi-Fi signal is too weak, especially in detached garages.
- The retrofit kit doesn't work with LiftMaster or Chamberlain yellow-button openers or one-piece doors. Those need myQ instead.
We diagnose the whole system, opener, door, sensors, and remotes, and tell you plainly whether it's a quick fix or time for a new unit.
