Before you start

  • A stepladder
  • The remotes and keypad you want to keep

Step by step

  1. Step 1: Find the SET button on the motor unit.

  2. Step 2: Press and hold SET. Keep holding past the P and the 1, for about 15 seconds, until the display flashes E. Then release.

  3. Step 3: Press and release SET once to confirm. The E disappears and all remotes and keypads are erased.

  4. Step 4: Check that none of the old remotes work.

  5. Step 5: Program the remotes and keypad you're keeping again.

Still not working? Here is what it usually is.

  • You may have let go early, at the 1, which starts travel-limit setup instead. Wait for the display to clear, then start over and hold the full 15 seconds.
  • An old car button still works. Clear it from the car as well.

Common Questions

We just moved in. Should we really do this?

Yes. You don't know how many remotes the previous owners or their contractors still have. Erasing them takes a minute, and then you set a new keypad PIN as well.
